[Military Pay] 미군 급여에 대해 알아보자: COLA란? 계산 방법?

미군 급여에는 기본급 말고도 다양한 수당들이 포함되어 있는데,
그 중에 하나가 바로 COLA이다.

모든 미군들이 COLA를 받는 것은 아니고,
물가가 비싼 지역에서 근무할 경우 COLA가 나온다.

1. COLA의 종류

- COLA에는 두 종류가 있다.

1) CONUS COLA
The Cost-of-Living Allowance in the continental United States (CONUS COLA) is a taxable, supplemental allowance
designed to help offset expenses for Service members assigned to expensive CONUS areas.

CONUS COLA는 본토에서 받는 COLA로, 세금이 붙는 추가 수당이다.
물가가 높은 CONUS 지역에 파견된 군인들에게 주어진다.CONUS 지역에는 CALIFORNIA, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, NEW YORK 등이 있다.

2) OCONUS COLA
Service members serving outside of the continental United States (OCONUS) where the cost of living is higher than CONUS receive an Overseas Cost-of-Living Allowance (COLA). Overseas COLA is a non-taxable allowance designed to offset higher prices of non-housing goods and services OCONUS and equalize purchasing power with members stationed in CONUS. It does not reimburse expenses, compensate for remoteness, hardship, loss of spousal income, or non-availability of goods and services.

OCONUS COLA는 본토 밖, CONUS보다 생활비가 많이 드는 지역에서 근무하는 군인들이 받는 수당으로 세금이 붙지 않는다.대표적으로 하와이가 OCONUS가 나오는 지역에 해당한다.

2. COLA 계산 방법

그렇다면 COLA가 어느 정도 나오는지 어떻게 알 수 있을까?바로 COLA 계산기를 이용하면 쉽게 계산할 수 있다.

1) Location : 근무 지역을 선택한다.
2) Year, Month, Pay Period : 연도와 월을 선택하고 Pay Period는 1st-15th를 선택한다.
3) Pay Grade, Years of Service, Living in Barracks, Number of Dependents : 계급, 근무 년수, 거주 형태, 부양가족 수를 선택한 후 계산한다.
4) Pay Period만 16th-EOM으로 변경한 후 다시 계산한다.
5) 3,4번에서 계산한 값을 더하면 한 달치 COLA가 나온다.

이렇게 계산하면 2023년 하와이 COLA는 $479.47이 나온다!
