[Military Spouse] 미군 배우자를 위한 기본 체크리스트

미군의 배우자로서 미군 생활에 대해 알아야 하는 것들

 

military installation에서 Community Service Center or Family Support Center에 가면
혜택과 서비스에 대한 최신 정보도 얻을 수 있고
spouse orientation program에 등록할 수 있다고 한다.

일단 미군 배우자로서 혜택을 받기 위해
original copy of your marriage certificate(결혼 증명서 원본)을 갖고 있는 것이 좋다.

기본적인 사항들 체크해보기

1. 배우자를 DEERS에 등록하기
DEERS란 Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System의 약자로 가족등록시스템이라고 보면 된다.
미군 가족으로서 혜택을 받기 우해서는 반드시 등록되어야 한다.
※ 필요한 것 : marriage license, birth certificate or Social Security card

2. ID card facility에서 military identification card 받기
이 ID 카드가 있어야 미군 베이스, exchanges, commissaries 등에 출입 가능하다.
또한 의료 케어(medical care)를 받을 수 있다.
DEERS 등록과 동시에 ID 카드를 받을 수 있으므로 같이 하자.
※ 필요한 것 : marriage license, birth certificate, photo identification,
Department of Defense Form 1172 (application form) - 일명 DD form

3. Power of Attorney 신청하기

Legal office에서 신청하면 된다.
둘이 떨어져 살 때 있으면 유용하다고 한다.

4. Serviceman's Group Life Insurance (SGLI) policy에 배우자를 수혜자로 올리기
※ 필요한 것 : DD Form 93

5. state and federal income tax status에 결혼 상태를 반영해야 하는지 알아보기
부대 내의 legal office나 Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program (VITA)에 확인하기

6. 배우자의 Social Security number 기억하기
서류 작업에 필요할 수 있다.
